ʻOihana Maoli Ola, Inspiring Cultural And Environment Wellness
Nestled beneath the Koʻolau mountains and watched over by the Olomana ridges is the freshwater known as Kawainui, the heartbeat of Kailua ahupua'a. Surrounding this majestic body of water are many 'ili or small land sections along its border, and one of these 'ili is Palalupe, a place for ʻoihana maoli ola.
ʻOihana maoli ola embraces land stewardship, culture, and learning for the health and wellness for the land and our people. The connections and vibrations that come from ʻoihana maoli ola are guides and reminders of aloha ʻāina.
Named after the great chief Kūaliʻi who was born in Kailua during the 1500s, the ʻoihana maoli ola of Ke Kahua O Kūaliʻi centers around 14-acres of land that were documented during the 19th century as Palalupe and Pōhakea, ʻili ʻāina that sits along Kawainui. Ke Kahua O Kūaliʻi has been reviving, restoring, and cultivating Palalupe and Pōhakea to inspire our community through cultural activities and cultural exchanges. Our culture is inseparable from our land and the ʻāina is a foundation of our work. ʻOihana maoli ola is a pathway to establish healthy environments and thriving communities.
Our monthly community-volunteer opportunities are on the third Sunday, please check out our Instagram or contact us [email protected] for more info.
